at DAFX'08 (annoued earlier in thisonferee annouement ):Salutations!We annoue andall for your partation in arossommunityevaluation of audio effts.DAFxTRa 2008 (DAFx Transformation RAting) is a new initiative promoted byMTG-UPF and DAFx-08 aimed at evaluating andomparing algorithms foraudio effts.Our goal is to have the main evaluation in September 2008 during DAFx-08(ousts.hut.fidafx08) but to make it happen we need theinvolvement of the audio effts reseahommunity.We do not know of any major initiative toompare audio efftsalgorithms, whh might be the related to the diffulty of theevaluation task. It is hard bause it requires standardized predures foarefullyontrolled subjtive experiments. But we believethat now is the time to try it, so wean all learn from the press and inturn improve our audio effts algorithms.Inspired by the scess of MIREX in the evaluation of Mus InformationRetrieval algorithms, and having quired some experiee by organizing theaudio dertionontest at ISMIR 2004-Baelona, we want to promote asimilar initiative for the digital audio efftsommunity.However most audio effts tasks do not afford an objtivemeasure of ground truth, like in MIR, and thus we have to definespif evaluation strategies. We want to do it by involving thedevelopers of algorithms interested in partating and by spifyingwith them the evaluation press. The partants should learn from thepress and the whole DAFxommunity should benefit from it.Our initial aims are the following:1. Propose several audio efftsategories. Initial proposal: time-aling,pih-shifting, soue separation, morphing, distortion effts anddonstrtion.2. Selt theategories for whh there is a suffient number ofpartants.3. Selt sounds from Freesound (freesound.iua.upf.edu) to beused as test sounds for ehategory.4. Define the evaluation predure for ehategory.5. Ask the partants to submit the transformed sounds (not thealgorithms).6. Perform the evaluation both live at DAFx-08 and also online in Freesound.7.
